How Much Does Lifestyle Impact How Long We Live?

The Harvard Gazette reported in a 2018 study that five healthy lifestyle habits helped increase life expectancy. These five habits increased life expectancy for women by 14 years and men by 12.

The five habits were:

  • Eating a healthy diet that included many plants and low amounts of saturated fats
  • Exercising (moderately-vigorously) for several hours a week
  • Maintaining a healthy and stable body weight
  • Not smoking
  • Limiting alcohol intake to one drink per day for women and two drinks per day for men
